Phylicia Rashad became one of the most admired actresses on American television in the 1980s through her role as Clair Huxtable, the elegant, Harvard-educated lawyer and devoted mother in The Cosby Show (1984-1992). Her portrayal of a strong, intelligent Black woman who balanced a demanding career with family life was groundbreaking for American television and earned her multiple Emmy nominations.
