Roy Walker is a Northern Irish comedian and television presenter who became one of the most recognisable faces on British television in the 1980s and 1990s as the original host of ITV's Catchphrase. The show, which first aired in 1986, challenged contestants to identify catchphrases from animated sequences featuring the cartoon character Mr Chips. Walker's warm, good-humoured presenting style and his own catchphrase — 'Say what you see!' — became embedded in the national consciousness, and the show regularly attracted audiences of over 10 million viewers during its peak years.
... Before Catchphrase, Roy Walker had built a reputation as a stand-up comedian, appearing on The Comedians and working the club circuit across the UK. He hosted Catchphrase until 1999, presenting 13 series and becoming synonymous with the format. Walker's genial personality and rapport with contestants made the show a family favourite, and he is fondly remembered as one of the great game show hosts of his era. He has continued to perform stand-up comedy and make television appearances in the years since.
