The Buggles were a British new wave duo consisting of Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes. They are best known for their landmark 1979 single "Video Killed the Radio Star", which became the first music video ever broadcast on MTV on 1 August 1981. The song reached number one in 16 countries and perfectly captured the dawning of the music video age. The duo released their debut album "The Age of Plastic" in 1980, blending synth-pop with art rock. Both members subsequently joined the progressive rock group Yes, with Trevor Horn going on to become one of the most celebrated record producers of the 1980s, working with Frankie Goes to Hollywood, ABC, and many others. Their influence on the visual and electronic music landscape of the 1980s remains immeasurable.
