From acoustic duo to Melbourne pub band
Colin Hay began performing with Ron Strykert as an acoustic duo in 1978. By mid‑1979 they expanded into a five‑piece in Melbourne when Jerry Speiser (drums), Greg Ham (flute, sax, keys) and John Rees (bass) joined. The band built a grassroots reputation on the Australian pub circuit and adopted the name Men at Work as they began gigging locally. [1]
