From schoolfriends to Simple Minds
The group emerged from Glasgow in 1977 out of several school-friend projects and a short-lived punk band. Ditching punk stage names, they adopted the name Simple Minds and developed a reputation for adventurous live shows. Early line-ups stabilised after recruiting keyboardist Mick MacNeil; their first records on Zoom/Arista combined post‑punk energy with experimental, Krautrock-influenced textures. [1]
