Dixie Carter became one of the most distinctive voices on American television in the late 1980s through her role as Julia Sugarbaker, the passionate, eloquent, and fiercely opinionated co-owner of a Atlanta interior design firm in the CBS sitcom Designing Women (1986-1993). After Designing Women, she continued to work in theatre and television, appearing in various productions.
