Dixie Carter
Mini Bio

Dixie Carter became one of the most distinctive voices on American television in the late 1980s through her role as Julia Sugarbaker, the passionate, eloquent, and fiercely opinionated co-owner of a Atlanta interior design firm in the CBS sitcom Designing Women (1986-1993). Her character's famous monologues, in which she delivered devastating put-downs with Southern grace, became known as 'the Terminator speeches' and made Julia one of television's most memorable characters.

...Carter had an extensive stage career before Designing Women, performing in numerous Broadway and regional theatre productions. She was married to actor Hal Holbrook from 1984 until her death. After Designing Women, she continued to work in theatre and television, appearing in various productions. She passed away in April 2010, remembered as one of the finest dramatic actresses of her generation.
