Delta Burke became one of the most talked-about actresses on American television in the late 1980s through her role as Suzanne Sugarbaker, the vain, beauty-queen ex-wife in the CBS sitcom Designing Women (1986-1991). Her portrayal of the self-absorbed but ultimately warm-hearted Suzanne earned her two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and made her one of the show's most popular characters.

...Burke had won the Miss Florida pageant in 1974 before pursuing an acting career. Her time on Designing Women was marked by well-publicised conflicts with the show's producers, and she left the series in 1991. After the show, she starred in the short-lived sitcom Delta (1992-1993) and continued to work in television and film. She has been open about her struggles with weight and depression.
